Kinnear Centre for Creativity and Innovation

A centrally located conference building at the Banff Centre for Arts and creativity, it's hard to miss when wandering around campus. Built in 2010, its most distinctive feature is the array of bars across the windows on the south side. It almost makes it look like... a prison. Yes, each room has a view, and the bars are supposed to keep it from getting hot during the short summer, but I would think that a more compelling design could have been created for a building with "creativity" and "innovation" in its name.

I would often try to imagine what went on inside that building. Were bored workshop/conference attendees peering out through those barred windows, wistfully wishing they could escape to the scenery with which they were so cruelly taunted?

More importantly, here is a large, 60,000 sq ft structure built in Banff to expand the Banff Centre's presence on the side of Tunnel Mountain, adding a distinctive scar to the landscape seen from miles away.
